On the 24th of March 2015, Microsoft Ireland hosted an event in Dublin called ‘Codess Dublin – Ignite the Future’ to promote networking and career building among more than 130 women in the IT sector.

Codess is a community for females in technology roles initiated by Microsoft worldwide to explore ways to promote gender diversity in the engineering field.

Johanna was among the contributors and she spoke about many of the benefits that come with having a coach. Johanna went on to describe many of practical models used in coaching which demystified what coaching involves for those attendees who had not experienced it before.

Women at the event were also keen to find out more about the benefits of maternity coaching and other key findings from the SEVENx7 research ‘Maternity Leave in Ireland: Maximizing Reintegration and Retention’.

Other speakers included Santina Doherty, managing director of a start-up called Unravel Analytics, who spoke about her own experience, and Andrew MacAdam, technology evangelist at Microsoft Ireland, spoke about the company’s approach to innovation.

Fiona Carney, Director EMEA Dynamics Operations, and Gender Diversity Lead for Microsoft Ireland, said of the event. “By looking at the topic of females in technology roles through the prism of a number of different perspectives – from the career coach to the engineer, and from women working in STEM in large multinationals through to a female entrepreneur – we are able to piece together an accurate picture of the current situation.”

“By sharing knowledge, participants can look to adapt their situation to best suit them, and a future with a much greater participation of women in STEM roles can be anticipated and planned for.”

Codess delivers a series of worldwide events and workshops for female coders from academia through to the executive level. Previous Codess events have been held in London, New York, Seattle, Prague, Sweden, Estonia and Romania. More information is about the event is available at and #CodessDUB
